International requirements in the world of work are increasing in the wake of globalisation. Periods of time spent abroad are considered to offer a high degree of potential in terms of imparting the necessary competencies in this regard. In light of this, the German Bundestag has set out the objective that, by 2020, at least ten percent of all persons completing dual VET should have spent part of such training abroad. What is the current state of affairs, who finances mobility, and how is the benefit of such periods spent abroad evaluated? And what are the reasons stated by trainees, companies and schools not taking part in foreign stays? These questions are investigated on the basis of a representative survey, and conclusions are also drawn with regard to the endeavours being undertaken to increase the number and extent of stays abroad.
Im Zuge der Globalisierung nehmen internationale Anforderungen in der Arbeitswelt zu. Auslandsaufenthalten wird ein hohes Potenzial beigemessen, die dafür notwendigen Kompetenzen zu vermitteln. Vor diesem Hintergrund hat der Bundestag das Ziel formuliert, dass im Jahr 2020 mindestens zehn Prozent aller Absolventinnen und Absolventen einer dualen Berufsausbildung einen Teil ihrer Ausbildung im Ausland verbracht haben sollen. Wie ist der aktuelle Stand, wer finanziert die Mobilität und wie wird der Nutzen solcher Auslandsaufenthalte eingeschätzt? Und welche Gründe nennen Auszubildende, Betriebe und Schulen, die sich nicht an Auslandsaufenthalten beteiligen? Auf der Grundlage einer repräsentativen Studie wird diesen Fragen nachgegangen und es werden Schlussfolgerungen für die angestrebte Steigerung der Auslandsaufenthalte gezogen.
In Germany there is a broad consensus among the partners involved regarding stays abroad during the individual's vocational training. Stays abroad are considered the ideal way to acquire the international occupational competence which is needed for many jobs today. Despite the importance attached to stays abroad, it had not how ever been known to date how many persons undergoing initial vocational training complete a phase of their learning in another country per year. A study conducted on behalf of the Education for Europe – National Agency (NA) at BIBB examined this question. The following article presents key findings from this study. It also examines what action would have to be taken so that the widelyaccepted practice of completing a phase of learning in a foreign country can be incorporated into the vocational education and training field as a normal, integrated learning segment.
Zur Frage der Auslandsaufenthalte in der Berufsbildung gibt es in Deutschland einen breiten Konsens der beteiligten Partner. Auslandsaufenthalte werden als der Königsweg in der Vermittlung internationaler Berufskompetenz betrachtet, die heute an vielen Arbeitsplätzen notwendig ist. Trotz dieser Bedeutungszumessung war bisher aber nicht bekannt, wie viele Personen in der Erstausbildung pro Jahr eine Phase des Lernens im Ausland absolvieren. Dieser Frage geht eine im Auftrag der Nationalen Agentur Bildung für Europa beim BIBB durchgeführte Studie nach. Zentrale Ergebnisse dieser Studie werden im Beitrag vorgestellt. Darüber hinaus wird der Frage nachgegangen, welchen Handlungsbedarf es gibt, um den verbreiteten Standard einer Lernphase im Ausland als integrierten Regelfall in der beruflichen Bildung berücksichtigen zu können.
