Der Einsatz von Künstlicher Intelligenz (KI) in fast allen Berufsbereichen verändert auch Inhalte und Abläufe der Berufsbildung. Bereits in der ersten Förderrunde des Innovationswettbewerbs InnoVET wurde diese Entwicklung aufgegriffen und nimmt in der 2024 gestarteten zweiten Förderrunde Inno- VET PLUS deutlichere Formen an. Im Beitrag wird exemplarisch dargestellt, wie KI von den Projekten aufgegriffen wird.

The starting point of this article is the observation that much attention is given to the transparency of qualifications acquired in formal education and training institutions and less so to the transparency of competencies acquired at work, at home or during leisure time. The article explores the conceptual basis of existing transparency and transferability tools in the EU. Informed by European and national level experiences, this article underlines the importance of distinguishing between qualifications and competencies and how this can be achieved by precisely applying learning outcomes terminology.

This article takes the current challenges facing democratic societies and the entanglement of these with digital aspects as a starting point to show the connections between media and civic education and to present civic media education as a contemporary manifestation of education for democratic citizenship. It concludes by arguing that great significance should be attached to such civic media education within the context of VET too, both at the level of teaching contents and via relevant experiential spaces.

Interaction between the labour market and vocational education and training is not running smoothly at present. Companies are increasingly complaining that they are unable to fill their training vacancies. At the same time, the Federal Employment Agency is continuing to report that a large number of young people are failing to find a training place. This varies according to sector and region. In general terms, however, it is possible to state that almost no training is any longer being provided by the smallest category of companies in the craft trades sector. Company-based training also plays virtually no role at start-ups, which are highly prevalent in the booming technology sector in particular. Kerstin Josupeit-Metzner is Head of the Berlin-based project “Cooperative Guidance Services for Dual VET”. Together with her team, she has taken up the cause of encouraging small and innovative firms in particular to become involved VET and thus open up prospects for both sides – companies and trainees.

Das Zusammenspiel von Arbeitsmarkt und Berufsbildung läuft aktuell nicht reibungslos. Unternehmen beklagen zunehmend, dass sie ihre Ausbildungsstellen nicht besetzen können. Zugleich meldet die Bundesagentur für Arbeit eine nach wie vor hohe Anzahl junger Menschen, die keinen Ausbildungsplatz finden. Dies variiert je nach Branche und Region. Generell ist jedoch festzustellen, dass insbesondere Kleinstbetriebe im Handwerk kaum mehr ausbilden. Auch in Start-ups, die sich vor allem in der boomenden Tech-Branche tummeln, spielt die betriebliche Ausbildung so gut wie keine Rolle. Kerstin Josupeit-Metzner leitet die Verbundberatung Duale Berufsausbildung in Berlin. Zusammen mit ihrem Team hat sie sich auf die Fahnen geschrieben, gerade auch kleine und innovative Unternehmen für die berufliche Bildung zu gewinnen und so Perspektiven für beide Seiten – Unternehmen und Auszubildende – zu eröffnen.

Starting employment is a key component of immigrants’ societal participation in Germany. Recognition of the qualifications which immigrant skilled workers have acquired abroad is an important step towards sustainable integration into this country’s labour market. Data relating to the recognition grant being piloted with funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is used to show what role is also played by characteristics relating to origin and occupations in the employment chances of immigrants who have completed a recognition procedure.

20 years after their last revision, the four environmental technology occupations have been modernised in order to bring them up to speed in terms of current and future challenges, including technological innovations and climate change. New qualification titles are being introduced with a view to enhancing the attractiveness of these occupations. The relevant training regulations enter into force at the start of the 2024 training year.

The establishment of a hydrogen economy is a key element of German climate policy. This article summarises the results of two BIBB projects which have been examining the impacts of the hydrogen ramp-up on the labour market as a whole and on the dual VET system. Alongside the expected positive economic impetuses and employment effects, it is revealed that existing training occupations already offer good initial starting points for hydrogen-related tasks. Nevertheless, there is a need for more precisely tailored training provision.

A discussion proposal put forward by the trade union IG Metall on the further development of the final examination in dual VET into a dual testing of competency represents the start of a debate on modern competency assessment in training. As a consequence of the influence of the increasing digitalisation of operational processes, possible starting points are emerging as to how the examination can act as a competency assessment and keep pace with digital company reality. This article presents initial considerations in this regard.

Das BMBF-geförderte Modellvorhaben „VerOnika“ zielt auf die Erprobung verzahnter Orientierungsangebote. Diese sollen den Teilnehmenden gleichwertig Einblicke in ein Hochschulstudium sowie in eine berufliche Ausbildung bieten, um so eine erfahrungsbasierte Bildungsentscheidung zu ermöglichen. Der Beitrag stellt Befunde der wissenschaftlichen Begleitung dieses Modellvorhabens vor. Diese resultieren aus qualitativen und quantitativen Start- und Abschlussbefragungen der Programmteilnehmenden und spiegeln insbesondere deren Perspektive auf die verzahnten Orientierungsprogramme wider.
